Holiday camps
Week-long sailing or kayak camps for children and adults during school holidays.
Camps for every age
From the Sea Garden for toddlers to catamaran camps for teenagers and adults, our camps run over a week. Groups are organised by age and level, led by qualified instructors, so everyone can progress at their own pace and in complete safety.
Practical information
- Duration: 5 half-days, Monday to Friday (2 days for the sea kayak camp, see below)
- Times: 9am–12pm or 2pm–5pm
Sea Garden (ages 4-6)
This camp is designed specially for the youngest sailors. With their instructor, children discover their first tacks and the marine environment in a fun, educational and safe setting, through activities both indoors and outdoors at the sailing centre.
Programme
- Monday: boat trip, tour of the sailing centre and its boats
- Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday: introduction to Optimist dinghy and Caravelle keelboat sailing, exploring the shore’s wildlife and plants, shore fishing
- Friday: treasure hunt
The week’s programme may change depending on the children’s wishes and the weather. As a bonus, you’ll take home photos of your children to remember the best moments of their camp.
Young Sailor (ages 6-10)
Ideal for a first experience, this camp introduces children to the sea and the wind gently, in a fun and safe way. Sailing in pairs, they learn to sail an Optimist dinghy, the iconic boat of sailing schools.
Programme
- introduction to sailing an Optimist: adjusting the sail and steering the boat, discovering the thrill of gliding on the water
- discovering the marine environment: understanding wind and currents, finding bearings on the water, basic ropework, observing marine wildlife
- trying other boats: Caravelle keelboat or group sailing boat, depending on the weather
Optimist improvers (ages 8-12)
The Optimist dinghy is where children take their first tacks alone on their own boat — the first steps into sailing and the first taste of speed. With a flat-bottomed hull and a single sail, it’s a light, stable boat that’s simple to handle.
Programme
- independence: preparing your boat, getting equipped with the gear provided
- sailing: taking your first tacks, feeling the first thrills of speed, positioning yourself relative to the wind, moving around the sailing area with instructors’ help
- technique: controlling the boat using the sail, the tiller and your position in the boat
This camp is for children who already have some sailing experience. If not, we recommend starting with the “Young Sailor (ages 6-10)” camp.
Catamaran (ages 9-12)
The first catamaran for young sailors! Children sail in pairs on New Cat 12s, small, stable catamarans that are easy to handle. Speed, spray and plenty of thrills, in a safe setting.
Programme
- independence: checking weather conditions, getting ready with the gear provided, preparing the boat
- technique: using the tiller, the sheet and your positioning to sail the boat well, learning to change tack, beating to windward
- seamanship: how tides work, tying knots, finding your way on a chart
Catamaran (ages 13-15)
Young sailors take to the water in pairs on the Hobie Cat T1, a 14-foot catamaran with no boom, perfect for improving while having fun. Easy to handle, it suits beginners and more experienced sailors looking for thrills alike.
Programme
- technique: beating to windward, trapeze and traveller adjustments
- seamanship: finding your sailing area on a chart, assessing sea conditions
Catamaran (age 16+ / adult)
Aboard a powerful, fast Dart 16, come and have fun, pick up speed and fly a hull under control, with guidance from our instructors, on a distinctive and technical stretch of water.
Programme
- technique: double trapeze, long-distance sailing, adjusting the boat for easier handling
- seamanship: chart reading, weather, helping plan sailing routes
Sea kayak (age 16+ / adult) — two-day camp
Discover Roscoff and Morlaix Bay on a two-day sea kayak camp, made up of two 3-hour sessions.
On the first day, at the sailing centre, you’ll learn the basics of sea kayaking: handling the boat, paddling technique and safety rules, while exploring the Roscoff coastline and its wildlife and plants. The second day is all about touring: you’ll paddle along the coast to discover the varied scenery of Morlaix Bay, guided by qualified instructors.
